DEBBIE (18)

Like Dominic, Debbie was always an outsider. She has never really related to people of her own age, preferring (if anything) the company of the elderly.

Outwardly bubbly, selfless and caring, until she met Dominic she lead quite a lonely, transient life.

When she was sixteen Debbie began paying visits to old people in care homes. People assumed she must have been a relative and although she never said so, she didn’t deny it. She was happy spending time with the old dears…chatting, drinking tea and eating their biscuits. Occasionally she would steal bits of jewelry or (more often) pharmaceuticals.

It was at one of these homes, that Dominic and Debbie first met.

DOMINIC (18)

Dominic was born in 1979 in Newcastle. His father worked in the shipyards, he never knew his mother. His father was laid off in 1986 and from the age of 40, never worked again. The house Dominic was brought up in became silent and oppressive and although rarely violent, his father drank and suffered from depression, often staring at the wall for hours on end.

Although intelligent, Dominic left school at 16 without any qualifications and immediately left home. He headed south drifting from town to town, labouring on building sites. After six months he found another job in Milton Keynes working in an old people’s care home for an extra 50p per hour. For that, Dominic worked shifts and shoveled shit.

GRANDAD (75)

Granddad arrives in Milton Keynes an economic migrant in the late 1970’s. Formerly employed as an electrician on merchant vessels, he was well used to being displaced but as the years passed by in MK, the distance from family took it’s toll and he became increasingly in need of home care, which Dominic and Debbie eventually gave him.
